Atletico Madrid await Arsenal still waiting for Wanda Metropolitano to bare its teeth

"I hope the fans blow up the Wanda Metropolitano, that it explodes," said Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone at the news conference following his side's 1-1 Europa League semifinal first-leg draw at Arsenal last week. "There must be positive energy to accompany these kids. I get goosebumps thinking of how next Thursday could be." Simeone was still pumping as he spoke -- having watched from the stands as Atletico's 10 men battled to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates following Sime Vrsaljko's early red card, with the Argentine also sent off for abusing the referee soon afterwards. "Hopefully our fans can help us to go through in the return," Antoine Griezmann said. "We must do it now, we expect a euphoric atmosphere at the Wanda." It seemed, maybe, as if Simeone and Griezmann had momentarily forgotten their team had moved home last season. Atletico's old, crumbling Vicente Calderon stadium was a place that exploded and grew eupho...

Mesut Ozil must deliver in big game as Arsenal plot Atletico downfall

Arsenal will undoubtedly go into Thursday night's second leg of their Europa League semifinal against Atletico Madrid with a tinge of regret. With the Spanish side reduced to 10 men after just 10 minutes of their first encounter, and then having manager Diego Simeone sent to the stands a few minutes later, there was a real opportunity to be ruthless and take a solid advantage to Madrid. Instead, they struggled to break down their opponents, and although Alexandre Lacazette gave them the lead, a late defensive calamity allowed Antoine Griezmann to equalise, grabbing a valuable away goal. The Gunners should have done more with the first leg, but although Atletico are now clear favourites, this is a tie that is far from over. Arsene Wenger's team selection will likely see him field more or less the same side that played at the Emirates last Thursday. If Henrikh Mkhitaryan is fit, he could come into the side in place of Jack Wilshere, but the Arsenal manager may decide to ke...

Premier League trio Everton, Leicester and Burnley are eyeing a move for Egypt international forward Mahmoud Hassan, sources have told ESPN FC. Hassan, who is nicknamed "Trezeguet" after the former French striker David Trezeguet, has impressed this season on loan at Turkish side Kasimpasa from Anderlecht. The 23-year-old has scored 14 goals and laid on five assists for Kasimpasa so far this season and his performances have brought him to the attention of several clubs across Europe. Everton, Leicester and Burnley have sent scouts to watch Hassan in action and they are considering moves for him as they look to bolster their attacking options for next season. Hassan has just over a year to run on his contract at Anderlecht and his suitors feel they could land him for a bargain price in this summer's transfer window. Hassan is set to feature at this summer's World Cup in Russia for Egypt with the left-sided winger playing a key role in the qualification for th...

Raul joins Tottenham Hotspur training session as part of coaching course

Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez joined a Tottenham Hotspur training session on Thursday as part of work towards his professional coaching badges. Raul, 40, who retired from playing in 2015, was pictured alongside fellow striker Fernando Llorente at Hotspur Way as Spurs prepared for Saturday's home game against West Brom. Along with other ex-players including former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and World Cup winner Marcos Senna, he is on a six-week fast-track course for the UEFA A and B licences which would allow him to coach youth teams. After a year of coaching at youth level, they will be free to obtain a UEFA Pro License and move into senior coaching and management. The course teaches topics including club management, nutrition, psychology, medicine and team building. Spurs recently said their former midfielder Ryan Mason, who retired in February, was undertaking his coaching badges at the club.
